    Description

A great early primitive blacksmith crafted side knife, probably designed for utilitarian uses.  Ex-Jim Dresslar collection from Bargersville, Indiana. Dresslar had an amazing Frontier museum, the Indian Wars Museum, filled with weapons, powder horns, early Frontier and Indian guns, and hundreds of knives and more. I purchased several dozen of these knives before Jim passed away. This knife has a Dresslar hang tag which indicates Dresslar collected this knife in 1972.  I have had them in my own collection for many years now, but as it always works, we are downsizing, and many will be up for sale in the near future.
The knife blade measures 6.5" long and the overall knife is 10.5" in length. The grips appear to be highly patinated & polished horn held with a pewter pouring into the butt, with the bolster being a thick roundel of brass. The butt shows a small hole which has evidence of a pewter or lead pour into grip to secure the blade tang, and at the front of the brass bolster you can see the result of the pewter/lead pour to secure blade to grip. A terrific frontiersman knife from the early to mid 19th century from a very famous Midwest museum collection as indicated above.
