    Large Antique American Bowie Style Knife. Possible Civil War Era. Estate sale find. Total length=14.75". Blade=9.75". Handle=5".Blade is approx. 2" wide. No makers mark. Has initials D N on one side at bottom of blade above the guard.(Need a mag glass to see). Wood handle with 3 pins. Obvious rust from age on both sides. Brass guard and handle are still in good condition. Still a solid piece overall. Weighs just over 1 lb. Many soldiers in the Civil War favored the Bowie knives for self defence hunting/ survival.
