    Description

    This photo shows British messenger war dogs being trained to overcome obstacles and cross shell-pocked battlefield in pursuit of their duty. They look like border collies to me. Very rare.
    The caption reads: Shell-pocked ground which can be easily negotiated by a light-footed messenger-dog but which was often the death of a human runner.
    This is a black-and-white plate from an extremely rare antique book from circa 1929. It has a blank back, meaning it was printed separately from the text for better quality and then tipped in or sewn into the book when it was bound. It would look wonderful framed.
    The paper is heavy and of quality. The page measures approx. 5.75 x 4.75 inches, and the picture (without margins) is approx. 4 x 3 inches.
