    Description:
    A beautiful very fine or much better Banknote from South Africa. This is the South African Reserve Bank Five Pounds note issued 2.12.54 or 2nd December 1954. The banknote is dark green with brown and orange on the front. The front displays the portrait of Jan Van Riebeeck in an oval frame in the top left corner of the front. The front also shows a woman seated with an anchor in the bottom left corner, a wagon drawn by what looks like mules in the bottom center, a man with a rifle on horseback on a rock watching the wagon, and two cattle grazing. The back is also green in color and displays a sail ship in the middle of the ocean. The note is written in Afrikaans and English with the first line on the front for the name of the bank and denomination being in English. The front has one signature, the date and the serial number as well as the denomination. This particular note has the serial number C over 36 747835, which is displayed twice on the front in black. The back only displays the name of the bank and the denomination. The note has a watermark displaying the portrait of Jan Van Riebeeck.
