    Description

A Dog's Head Letter Opener- Made in Oaxaca, Mexico in the 1950s
    .
The vintage letter opener, made with a sturdy metal created with Aluminum, measures approximately 9.5 inches long and about 1.5 inches wide at the top of the blade.
The pointed blade portion is almost 6 inches long. The letter opener is from Oaxaca, Mexico and features both artwork and an etched inscription on the blade. On one side, there is an identification number of 4C4B2. An etched inscription written in Spanish reads:
"Con mi fe' en Dios...soldre' vencedor."
The words are partially translated as
    "With my faith' in God...
    soldre' winner."
    The word
    "soldre
" might be referencing the metallic alloy which was used to create it. On the other side of the blade, the artwork illustrates a landscape and possibly a village. Above the blade is a crossbar, which gives the illusion of a knife-blade. The handle includes a dog's head (or possibly a dragon) on top and 3 fasteners that appear to be screws that hold it together. The photos above illustrate the details on both sides.
    Photo #6
offers a closeup of its origins, showing that it was created in Oaxaca, Mexico. The dog's head has piercing eyes, a smiling  mouth and the prominent upper and lower teeth are ready for action.
The CONDITION of the letter opener is USED.
The letter opener shows some minor dents and scratches, as well as one small rust spot at the bottom of the pointed blade. These are indicative of-- and typical for--its age of probably 75 years old. The opener will be protected in cardboard and bubble-wrap. It will be shipped via USPS First Class.
