    Description

1989 4Runner.  Door jam sticker says manufactured in Aug 1988.  Needs nothing.  Turn the key and drive.  Read my description below.
V6 Auto 4x4 with original manual locking Hubs.  This is nearly a stock truck down to the FM CD changer audio.
    Body:
I replace the rear quarters with Wolf steel panels from Canada and had the whole car painted black.  Car has always been black.  The tops of the fenders were rusted.  In hindsight I would have tackled another way.  Ask me about this mod for my opinion for future projects on a classic 4Runner.
The frame has no rot and is very clean.  the Fender wells look great, they could use some undercoat but you can see how clean they are in the pics.  Also see the frame.  The rockers were fine and are original. I removed the chrome trim, one piece was missing when I bought it.  The body clip holes are still there.
Bumpers are original and straight front and rear
Fiberglass top is in good shape, Rear power window works fine as does the rear wiper. I have had the top off once. But too cumbersome and I no longer have the means to remove and store. I used bedliner on the top.
    Wheels/Tires:
Steel 16" wheels with BFG K02s in 265/75 R16. Plenty of tread.  Rubs the front plastic fender liners a little at full steering lock
Standard ride height.  I believe the PO added a spring to the rear leaf pack.  Sits pretty level
New lugs purchased for the steel wheels
    Brakes:
Had entire brake system refreshed in 2022.  New rear brake drum cylinders. New front pads, rotors turned. Brake proportioning valve at rear was replaced and modded for better pedal feel and stopping.  Another mod that is known for these trucks.  New brake booster and 1" master cylinder installed.  I have a T100 dual diaphragm booster to go with the truck.  My mechanics worked out the other stuff out before resorting to this mod.
I recently fixed a sloppy shifter by replacing the rotted plastic bushings. This is a well known fix in many toyota truck models with an auto shifter.
    Interior:
All original.  Non smoker, no smoke smell.  Driver seat is torn on the side but fabric portion is still there but getting thin.  See pics
Headliner is still in place but torn near front so I created a panel that looks good. See pics.
Windows are crank except for rear.  All windows and doors function fine
Dash is cracked.  Not worth fixing with this dash with the change, accessory depression molded in.  I tried and replaced with a better looking cracked dash.  AC vents all function fine
AC blows and still cools.  Heat works fine.  I replaced heater control value in the last 2 years.
    All interior lighting works
Original owners manual, jack in the car.
    Engine:
Valve cover gaskets done in 2022.  Car dripped some oil before this and now it is very clean and smells better.  Intake boot replaced.
Engine runs, drive and idles just fine.  The V6 is not a power house.  In my opinion this is not the car to drive on the freeway at 65 and pass people.  Belts and hoses look good but would not be a bad idea to replace.  I just have no plans for long distance driving.
    Battery is brand new 2022.
I replaced the o2 sensor with a Bosch unit and it cleared that code.  Now it has another code that sometimes sets the CEL then goes out.  You must use a jumper in the ECU plug under the hood to pull CEL flash codes.
    Transmission:
Has power mode, auto trans with locking hubs.  4x4 works just fine.  I fixed the main shifter with some new bushing in the pivot area. Now the stick is nice and tight when moving from park to drive etc.
Mileage is shown. May slightly increase. Clean NC title in hand.  I do not have a vehicle history report.  You can purchase one, I simply never had one. I bought this 4runner locally in North Carolina.  I have several spare keys.
Why am I selling?  Son is 16 and I bought him a 05 4runner.  In my opinion a 1st gen is not the car for a new driver.  This was my toy and now time for the room and to pay for the kids' vehicles.
This is a head turner.  There are not many unmolested classic 4runners around so if you are looking for a vintage 4x4 you owe it to yourself to see this one.
